Golden Hour Portrait Photography in Berlin: TV Tower, Flowers & Hidden Corners

Golden hour in Berlin is one of the best reasons to shoot portraits outdoors here. The low, warm light around sunset does most of the work for you — it just takes the right location and timing to make the most of it. Here’s a look at a recent evening portrait session across a few different spots around the city, from a TV Tower backdrop to a quiet flower bed most people would walk straight past.

Chasing the Light at the Berlin TV Tower

A bridge with the Fernsehturm rising in the background is one of my favourite golden-hour setups in Berlin — it’s instantly recognisable, but the light and the angle change everything about how it reads in a photo. We timed this part of the session for the last hour before sunset, when the light turns warm and low enough to wrap softly around the subject instead of casting hard shadows.

Seated and standing poses both worked well here — the railing gave a natural line to work with, and the skyline behind kept enough context in frame to place the portrait firmly in Berlin without competing with the subject.

Soft Portraits Among Blooming Flowers

A short walk away, a bed of white blooms gave a completely different mood — soft, close, and quiet, rather than the wider skyline shots at the bridge. Getting in close and shooting at a wide aperture let the flowers blur into a soft frame around the portrait, using natural light rather than any additional lighting gear.

Turning Ordinary Corners of Berlin into Extraordinary Portraits

Some of my favourite images from any session come from the spots that don’t look like much until the light hits them right. Golden hour has a way of turning a plain corner, a stairwell, or an unremarkable stretch of pavement into a genuinely striking backdrop — you just have to be there at the right ten minutes.
